The improvement of the provisional denture procedure in the last decade has been one of the major advances in prosthetic practice. The temporary denture approach is only slightly more time-consuming and expensive than the conventional immediate denture approach, yet it has many advantages. These advantages include the following: (1) enables rapid results; (2) results in a higher quality definitive denture; (3) allows surgical treatment to be performed in one appointment; (4) allows duplicating the natural position of the tooth; and (5) provide the patient with a replacement denture after the definitive denture is completed. A provisional denture technique was described that used a flexible layered silicone mold to create the replacement teeth. The provisional prosthesis procedure is flexible and allows many variations of the technique to suit unusual clinical situations. A provisional removable partial denture technique has been described that involves blocking unwanted undercuts and duplicating the master cast to produce the partial denture. The result of this technique is a temporary partial denture that can be fitted with little or no modification and will better serve those who need it. Three simple procedures for the fabrication of treatment dentures were described and the indications for each were discussed. Although dentures are not often used, they are essential for the dentist who treats difficult patients who require complete dentures.
